INSIDER'S GUIDE

Explore the historic church of Puig de Missa on the hill above the town is the best way to get the lay of the land and taking in the river valley, traditional architecture and sparkling mediterranean sea. Offshore it is a regular sight to see parasailing in summer, windsurfers and sailing all year round. The local nautical school runs sailing courses for adults and children.

The marina is well equipped with boat companies offering full day and half day charters. Escape the “peak hour” procession of boats going to Formentera and spend more time exploring the untouched Northern coastline with its lush vegetation and mesmerizing rock formations. Unlike restaurants in Formentera, those on this Northern part of the island do not have tenders so you are better off eating on the boat.

Bike riding, walking or running the spacious promenade from the River, which separates Siesta from Santa Eulalia, past the beaches and marina to the gentle gradient of Mirador de ses Estaques is a fine way to spend a morning or evening in any month of the year. This activity is suitable for all ages and for those with mobility considerations. Santa Eulalia is a convenient location for those wanting to explore the island without hiring a car. With Public Transportation including an every improving bus system and excellent Ferry service. With the Ferry it is possible to explore Ibiza Town, Cala Llonga, local favorite beaches like Cala Pada, the hippy market in Es Canar, further north to es Figural and regular services to Formentera.

VILLA RENTAL REVIEW

Santa Eulalia is the name of the town which we review but it is also the name of the wider municipality which encompasses most of the Eastern part of the island. Properties in the town itself are predominantly made up of low-rise residential apartments which aren’t available for vacation rentals. However, within a short walk the urbanization situated above the town center offers new-build town houses which are a highly recommended for family clientele that want to enjoy the buzz of the town whilst being walking distance to supermarkets restaurants and shops. Groups wanting to let loose are probably going to feel a bit hemmed in so best to look for more privacy in surrounding areas.

AVAILABILITY

The availability of town houses and villas in Santa Eulalia can be quite difficult due to the convenience and exclusivity of villa accommodation without needing a car or navigating unnamed caminos in the countryside. Siesta is well worth consideration and there are more villa options available there whilst still being walking distance to the town centre. Montaña Verde is an urbanization above Siesta with wonderful views but you will certainly need a car. Alternatively look towards S’Argamassa and the surrounding beaches.

BEACH LIFE

The Santa Eulalia “city beach” is non-smoking shallow and safe beach which is clean and accessible from the promenade with outdoor dining. Sun longers are readily available in summer, and in the winter it is common to see bathers getting their dose of Vitamin D. It wouldn’t be a Spanish beach without a Pedalo, and these are available to rent.

It’s a busy beach and utilized for sport tournaments like beach volleyball. For a more tranquil beach experience visit Cala Pada and Niu Blau beach on the northern outskirts of Santa Eulalia, pine trees providing welcome shade in the sizzling summer months. Further North you will find the beaches of es Canar, Cala Nova, Cala Llenya, Cala Mastella, Cala de Boix, Pou des Llou, Aguas Blancas and Cala San Vicente. This is best enjoyed slowly but also provides for a dramatic bike ride or car journey.

WHERE CHEFS EAT

Meke are coffee perverts and their passion for roasting coffee beans has transformed the café culture on the island. Freshly ground beans are available at most ecological stores and in all of the best restaurants and hotels. They have been instrumental in raising the standard of coffee on the island and their flagship café is the best coffee one can get on the island. If you are looking for year-round dining, then you will be best to explore the many restaurants in Santa Eulalia. A gorgeous breakfast at Passion Café, where the focus is tasty, healthy ingredients packed with vegetarian and vegan that the hardiest carnivore will devour.

Capriccio is frontline and well-priced, proving to be a consistent favorite. Project Social in the port area has the kitchen open at breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves among the best burgers on the island. Santa Eulalia has “restaurant street” which is a pedestrianized area with local and international cuisine. Restaurant Street is safe for kids and most restaurants open a bit earlier than the usual 1900 dining. Plaza des Canó, Canon Square, is close to the promenade and has fountains and a playground for kids to play whilst adults supervise over a jug of sangria and plate of Bellota ham.

Higher end options would include the roof top terrace at Aguas de Ibiza, W Hotel or Me by Melia Hotel. Me Hotel is our preferred hotel recommendation in the Santa Eulalia area, and we can help with day passes, events and reservations. CBBC and Estel are excellent seafood restaurants with stunning views. Pan d’Or bakery is a must visit and their contemporary baking makes for a welcomed change from the traditional breads and pastries found in Santa Eulalia. Whether you like it savory or sweet, Lush recommends you just order two of everything. A good idea is to take their number and order a day in advance as the pastries and sourdoughs are divine and fly off the shelf.
