INSIDER'S GUIDE

Cova Santa is owned by the Amnesia group and has recently grown in popularity due to its diverse offering of day parties and night events. The venue is set around an ancient cave (hence the Cova) and this historic underpinning creates a connectivity with party goers looking for a more spiritual hedonism.

With success stories like Woomoon and Storytellers they venue is run with an acute attention to detail in the decor which is not lost on its punters. Cova Santa has carved a niche for open-air partying with events starting in the late afternoon before wrapping up around midnight. The legendary DC10 is a throwback to old school clubbing where punters mix together, and music is the most important ingredient. The vibe is techno and crowd know what they are doing. Perhaps not a club if you are testing the waters. DC10 is a short taxi ride from Sa Carroca and villas in the hills around KM5.

Club de Campo is a popular sports club offering Padel and Tennis Courts. Padel Courts are increasingly in demand, however there are not a lot of properties offering these amenities so Club de Campo is a solid alternative. For those families staying for a longer duration, Club de Campo offers Summer School for the kids although this can be booked out early, so it is best to plan. Vino & Co is worth a visit. Jeroen and his family are hospitable and welcoming. They have curated a refined selection of wines from boutique producers and bodegas. Jeroen is a sommelier with a beaming smile that will introduce you to the perfect wine to pair with your Ibiza holiday.

In the foothills above Sa Carroca there are trails and paths which are best explored with guides from the eBikes club or when the temperature permits by running or hiking.

The San Jordi market is held in the Hippodrome racetrack. These days it hosts more hippies than horses. Every Saturday this empty space is bustling with life and curiosities, and that’s just those running the stalls. In the winter, it is a reassuring constant and opportunity to meet with friends, listen to live music, talk to interesting locals and bag a bargain.

VILLA RENTAL REVIEW

As the geographic grouping between Sa Carroca and KM5 is varied so is the housing stock. Sa Carroca is predominantly made up of urban villas 5 mintues from Ibiza town and equidistant to the Airport. There are urbanisations and traditional neighborhoods in Sa Carroca but it does not take much effort to make your way into the hills where you will enjoy more privacy and elevated views. The area is predominantly South Facing looking towards Playa den Bossa and Salinas National Park.

Some of the islands most prominent villas are in this location and it is a popular choice for jet setters wanting to party in Playa den Bossa but also looking for refuge. In addition to the sprawling super villas there is also a number of properties suited for families. Although convenient to the airport this area is not on the flight path and therefore not impacted by noise pollution. It is likely that properties in Cap Martinet, S’Estanyol and Roca Lisa are affected more by the planes than this area.

AVAILABILITY

Sa Carroca to KM5 is one of the most sought after locations in summer and it´s superb positioning means this area is a popular choice for those travelling out of season.

BEACH LIFE

Sa Carroca to KM5 are not on the coast but it is less than 10 minutes to the world reknowned beaches of Salinas, Playa den Bossa and Cala Jondal. It is also worth visiting the red sandstone cliffs around Sa Caleta.

One of the only deserted beaches in this busy part of the island is the pebbly beach next to the airport called es Codolar. It isn’t going to be in many peoples “Top 5 Best Beaches” but that’s the point. I It is nice to get away from it all and walk down an empty beach to watch the planes land against the dramatic backdrop of Cap des Falco and the Salinas Salt Planes.

Another slice of the real Ibiza, just south of Playa d’en Bossa is La Xanga. La Xanga is a small beach surrounded by fisherman shacks and a coastal pine woodland. It’s possible to walk to Es Cavallet and Salinas from this idyllic beach.

WHERE CHEFS EAT

Sadly, the hedonistic KM5 has closed its doors and will not be opening again soon. It is such a short drive to culinary hubs of Cala Jondal and Ibiza Town which is full of super dining options. El Restaurante Sa Caleta is next to an ancient Phoenician Settlement and a bastion of traditional Ibicenco rustic cooking, using simple ingredients and freshness with the panache of an island institution. The Sa Caleta coffee is a must try to finish off your meal with a ceramic jug of brandy and herb infused fiery coffee.

Juls has been a smash hit since it opened its doors a few years ago. The detail in the interiors and secret garden feel creates a romantic ambience and formula for success. The Greek inspired food is exceptional.

Can Jordi Blues Station is “spit and sawdust” basic but it has character and sometimes hosts high grade Rock which makes a nice change of genre. Social Point and Cas Costas are BBQ dining with Argentinean influences. Closer to Ibiza Town, but still a short distance from Sa Carroca is Casa Maca. The agroturismo opened before the pandemic and remains one of the “go-to” restaurants. Part of the Mambo Group the combination of high-quality cuisine and unique view of Dalt Vila and Ibiza town makes it a destination for lunch or dinner.

Tsuma is a rising star in Ibiza’s restaurant scene. What it lacks in location it makes up with the fine shashimi, sake and sushi delivered to a standard that you would find in any European capital.
